Privacy Policy

The short version
- Your camera image is processed on your own device. We never receive it.
- In online games, your video goes only to the players in your lobby. It is encrypted, so we never see it.
- Other players in your lobby can see your IP address and can save photos of you from the match.
- There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies. We do not sell data.
- There is no public matchmaking. You only play online with people who have your room code.
- Our server sees the name you type and what happens in your match. It keeps this while your room is open, and its logs keep a short record for a limited time.
Who we are
Pose Party is a browser game run from Ontario, Canada. "We" and "us" mean the people who run Pose Party. To contact us, email [email protected].
What stays on your device
- Your camera image. An AI model runs in your browser. It turns each camera frame into body points, such as your shoulders, elbows and knees, and guesses your pose from them. The camera image and the body points stay on your device.
- Your face, for the crown. In online matches, when you are the first to get a word, the game finds your face in the camera image to place a paper crown on your head. It uses points around your face only for that, only on your device, and only while you wear the crown. It does not recognize who you are, and it never saves or sends these points. We do not collect face or body data that could identify you.
- No sound. The game never asks for your microphone and never records sound.
- Small notes in your browser. Your browser remembers the name you type for online games, when you last saw each word (so the game can show you new words first), and whether you can play online games. For that last one it keeps only "yes" or "no", never your birthday. To delete these notes, clear this site's data in your browser settings.
- Training clips. Clips you record on the Training screen stay in your browser's memory. They leave your device only if you export them to a file yourself.
What leaves your device
Your video, in online games (1v1 and Party)
Your video goes to the other players in your lobby over a direct, encrypted connection (WebRTC). When a direct connection is not possible, the video can pass through a relay run by Cloudflare. The relay passes on encrypted data that it cannot decrypt. We do not receive or record your video.
In Solo play and in the practice match against the robot, your video does not leave your device.
Photos taken by other players' games
During an online match, each player's game takes still photos of every player from the video on that player's own screen. The photos make the photo strips at the end of the match. They stay in that player's browser and are deleted when they leave the results, but a player can save their photo strip as a picture. This means another player can keep a photo of you. Only play with people you trust.
Your IP address
The other players in your lobby can see your IP address, because that is how direct video connections work. Our server also sees it, as every website does.
What our game server receives in online games
- the name you type, and the room code
- the list of words your game knows, and when you last saw each one
- during a match, the AI's current guess about your pose and how sure it is, and the time it recognized you
- the connection details needed to start the video between players, which include IP addresses
The server keeps this in memory only. A room is deleted when everyone leaves, or at the latest 30 minutes after its last match started. We do not store it in a database. The server log keeps a short record of names and room codes, as described below.
Word results, in every mode
After each word, your game can send a short report: the word, the game mode, whether the AI recognized you, how long it took, how close the AI came, and the word it guessed instead. The report has no name and no ID. Our server adds it to totals for each word and does not keep the single report. We use the totals to find the words the AI has trouble with, so we can improve it.
In online games, your game also reports whether each video connection went directly or through the relay, or failed. The server keeps only counts of these, so we can tell how often the relay is needed.
When the game loads
- Cloudflare sits in front of our server for security and speed, so every request to poseparty.ca passes through it, and it sees your IP address. It keeps copies of the game's pictures near players, and it also forwards email sent to our privacy address.
- Render hosts our game server. Like every web server, it sees your IP address and the pages you load, and it keeps server logs for a limited time. Our server writes your IP address into these logs when you load the game, connect, or type the access code, and the name you type and your room code when you create or join a room.
- Your browser also loads files from other companies: fonts from Google Fonts, the AI's code from jsDelivr, and the AI model files from Google Cloud Storage. In online games it also contacts a Google server that helps players connect, and possibly Cloudflare's relay. These companies see your IP address as part of these requests, and their own privacy policies apply.
Cookies
If the game asks for an access code, one cookie remembers that you typed it. It lasts 30 days. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
What we use it for
We use this information to run the game: to connect players, keep score, stop abuse (for example, by limiting how fast one IP address can create rooms), and improve the AI. We do not sell or rent it, share it for advertising, or use it for ads.
The AI's guesses decide game scores only. They are never used to make decisions about you outside the game.
Why we are allowed to use it
If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the law asks us to name a legal reason for each use:
- To run the game you asked to play (connecting players, keeping score, sending video in online games): this is needed to provide the game to you.
- To keep the game safe and to improve the AI (rate limits, server logs, anonymous word results): our legitimate interest in a game that works and cannot be abused. We keep this to the minimum and never use it to identify you.
- The camera: your browser asks your permission first, and you can say no.
Where it is processed
Our server runs in the United States. If you play from another country, including Canada, the information our server receives, as described above, is processed there, and the laws of the United States apply to it while it is there.
Do Not Track
We do not track you over time or across other websites, so there is no tracking for a "Do Not Track" signal to switch off. The game works the same way whether or not your browser sends one.
Children
Online games (1v1 and Party) send your live video to other players, so they are for players aged 13 or older. Before your first online game, the game asks when you were born. It keeps only whether you can play online, never the date. Players under 13 can play Solo, where the video stays on the device and only anonymous word results are sent.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete what we hold.
How long we keep it
- Room information: until the room is deleted, as described above.
- Word totals: we keep these. They contain no personal information.
- Server logs: kept by Render for a limited time.
- Information in your browser: until you clear this site's data.
Security
The game uses HTTPS, and video between players is encrypted. We do not have accounts or passwords to protect. No system is perfectly secure, but we collect as little as we can.
If a security breach puts your information at real risk, we will tell the people affected and report it to the authorities where the law requires, including the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Your choices and rights
- You can refuse camera access, or turn the camera off at any time in your browser's site settings. The game then cannot see you.
- You can play Solo, which keeps your video on your device.
- You can clear this site's data in your browser at any time.
- Depending on where you live (for example, in the EU, the UK or California), you may have the right to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, to ask us to delete it, or to object to how we use it. We do not store information linked to you, so there is usually nothing to hand over or delete, but contact us and we will answer.
- If you live in Canada, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. If you live in the EU or the UK, you can complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If we change what the game collects, we will update this page and the date at the top.
